Jayant Sharma, 22, was diagnosed with thalassaemia major when he was just five months old. This rare blood disorder means that he cannot produce normal haemoglobin for his red blood cells and so he relies on donated blood to survive.

Apheresis means the process of separation of the required blood components from the blood of single donor and returning simultaneously the rest of unrequited blood components to the donor’s body by fully automatic apheresis machine.
